James C. "Jim" Ashburn Jr.

World War II Veteran
 

James C. “Jim” Ashburn Jr., 84, of Bridgeton and formerly of Minotola died Friday evening, August 12, 2005 at the South Jersey Extended Care Nursing Home in Bridgeton following a one year illness.

The husband of the late Mary Lee Ashburn, he was born in New York, NY, and was the son of the late James C. Ashburn Sr. and the late Mary Agnes Ashburn (nee Listina).

A U. S. Army Veteran of World War II, he entered the Army at Ft. Dix, NJ and served as a heavy truck driver, dispatcher, infantryman and military policeman. Mr. Ashburn was airborne qualified and he had received the World War II Victory Medal as well as a Good Conduct Medal. He was honorable discharged at the conclusion of the war in California.

Prior to the war he was self employed as a truck driver throughout the United States. He returned to driving trucks until his retirement after being disabled.

Mr. Ashburn was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans N.J. Chapter #58 and the AARP.

He is survived by friend and guardian, Debbie Yaconelli of Minotola.

A graveside service will be held Tuesday afternoon August 16th at 2:30 P.M. at the Cumberland County Veterans Cemetery, Trench Road in Hopewell Township.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Freitag Funeral Home 137 W. Commerce St., Bridgeton.
