Harry J. DeSantis Jr.
US Army Air Corps Veteran
Harry J. DeSantis Jr., 72, Of 367 Indian Avenue, Bridgeton died unexpectedly early on Monday morning at S.J. Hospital - Bridgeton. He had been taken sick on Thursday night and admitted to the hospital on Friday.
The husband of Joan M. (nee Bowyer) DeSantis, he was born in Center Grove and was the son of the late Harry Sr. and Elizabeth Profetta DeSantis. Mr. DeSantis had lived at his current address since 1960 and prior to that lived on N. Pearl Street for several years.
He was employed in the office of Cross Transportation for twenty-one years and later worked for nearly nine years in a similar capacity for LoBiondo Trucking in Rosenhayn. His last place of employment was with Venice Maid in Vineland until he retired in 1988.
Mr. DeSantis was a 1942 graduate of Bridgeton High School and had served in the US Army Air Corps in the 8th Air Force in Europe. He served at the Base Air Depot II (BAD II) in England and traveled in the US and abroad to the yearly BAD II reunions. He was a lifelong member of the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Bridgeton.
In addition to his wife of 50 years, he is survived by one son; Charles A. DeSantis of Hopewell Township, one daughter; Judith D. Rausch of Wilmington, DE and three grandchildren; Shani and Rachael DeSantis and Michael Rausch. He is also survived by three brothers; Samuel, Lewis and Joseph DeSantis all of Bridgeton and two sisters; Betty Richie of Bridgeton and Lena Dellorifice of Vineland. He was predeceased by five brother; John, William, Frank, Charles and Nicholas DeSantis.
The funeral will originate at the Freitag Funeral Home, 137 W. Commerce St., Bridgeton on Thursday morning at 10 A.M. and will be followed by a 10:30 Funeral Mass at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, 312 N. Pearl St., Bridgeton. The interment will be made at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Bridgeton. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Thursday morning between 8:30 and 10.
