Lester P. “Bucky” Buckwalter Jr., 64, of Upper Deerfield Township, died Friday evening, January 31, 2003 at Dallas VA Hospital in Dallas, Texas following a brief illness.

He was born in Bridgeton and was the son of the late Donald W. and Francis (nee Ciappa) Workman. He was a longtime resident of Upper Deerfield Township. Mr. Buckwalter graduated from Bridgeton High School with the class of 1956.

A Veteran of the U.S. Air Force he worked with guided missiles at the Offutt Air Force Base in Nebraska as part of the United States Strategic Air Command. He returned to Bridgeton in 1962 after six years of military service.

He worked for over twenty-eight years at Wheaton Industries in Millville as a foreman operator before he retired in 1996.

Mr. Buckwalter was long time member of Meade Woodward Post #1795 VFW in Bridgeton and was also a time member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Bridgeton. An avid sports enthusiast he enjoyed watching the Philadelphia Eagles and NASCAR events. He also liked working with computers.

In his retirement, he especially enjoyed spending time with his son Anthony Buckwalter of Irving, Texas and of Upper Deerfield Township.

He is also survived by two daughters, Mariann Barr of Florida and Nancy Riddlin of Texas, two sons, Billy Barr of Texas and Eddie Barr also of Texas, three grandchildren, two sisters, Linda M. Hamrick and her husband Dana of Upper Deerfield Township and Donna L. Haldeman of Vineland.

Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon February 6 th at 2 o’clock at the Freitag Funeral Home, 137 W. Commerce St., Bridgeton with Reverend Don Knott of Woodruff United Methodist Church officiating.

The interment will be made at the Cumberland County Veterans Cemetery in Hopewell Township.

Friends will be received at the funeral home Thursday afternoon one hour prior to the service.

Memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Buckwalter’s name to the Woodruff United Methodist Church, c/o Robert Weldy, 154 Roadstown Road, Shiloh, N.J. 08353.
