Dorothy E. Comiski (nee Stitt)
Longtime Bridgeton Resident
Dorothy E. Comiski (nee Stitt), 89, of Bridgeton passed away peacefully under the compassionate care of those at the Hospice Inpatient Unit at the Bridgeton Health Center on Thursday morning July 8, 2010.
Born in Altoona, PA to Ida (nee Woomer) Stitt and Dorsey Stitt, she was the wife of the late Paul Comiski, who died in 1996. "Dot" came to Bridgeton to work at the Owens-Illinois Glass Company after serving in the US Navy from 1943 until 1945 as a WAVE during World War II. A homemaker while raising her daughters, she later worked in several local sewing factories before being employed in the cafeteria at Bridgeton High School until her retirement in 1990.
She was a resident of Upper Deerfield Township for more than 40 years before moving to the Goldfinch House in 2008.
Mrs. Comiski was a 60 year member of the First United Methodist Church and a longtime hospital volunteer. While a resident at the Goldfinch House she enjoyed playing bingo and caring for the flowers. She also liked to crochet.
She is survived by one daughter, Paula Montana and her husband John of Rosenhayn, one granddaughter, Lisa Montana and her husband Grant Sporny, one grandson, Nicholas Montana and several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Emma Comiski and brothers-in-law, Joseph Comiski and Donald Stambaugh. Dot was predeceased by a daughter, Julie Comiski in 1975, a sister, Leola Stambaugh and brothers, William Stitt, Frank Stitt, James Stitt and Lloyd "Bus" Stitt.
Graveside services will be conducted at the convenience of the family at Overlook Cemetery in Bridgeton.
Pastor Elizabeth Mitchell of the First United Methodist Church will officiate.
At the family's request there will be no public visitation.
