Timothy David Morris
Sheriff's Officer
Sheriff's Officer Timothy David Morris, 24, of Rosenhayn, Badge No. 73, died unexpectedly Saturday, July 3, 2010. Tim was born in Woodbury, but his life was in Rosenhayn. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and shooting sporting clays with his family and friends, and he was a fan of the Philadelphia Phillies. He was a Master Mason of the Free and Accepted Masons (Blue Lodge), Shekinah Lodge No. 58 in Millville.
Sheriff's Officer Morris graduated from Cumberland Regional High School in June 2004 where he was a member of the Track and Field team, and also an avid soccer player. He was on the Cumberland Regional High School Soccer Team that won the 2002 South Jersey Group III Sectional Championship.
Sheriff's Officer Morris was previously employed at Acme Markets, Radio Shack, Boscov's and Winchester and Western Railroad. Tim began his career with the Cumberland County Sheriff's Department on August 4, 2006, and he graduated from Class No. 31 of the Gloucester County Police Academy on December 14, 2006. He was both the youngest graduate of his class and the fastest runner in his class. Tim was always trying to better himself, and he was working towards his degree in Criminal Justice at Cumberland County College, where he was a member of the Criminal Justice Society.
Sheriff's Officer Morris received several commendations for his work, where his duties included being the Juvenile Officer for the Cumberland County Sheriff's Department. He would occasionally don the McGruff the Crime Dog outfit to help teach children about safety and crime prevention, or the Eddie Eagle outfit to teach children about firearms safety. He also toured Cumberland Regional High School several times for Active Shooter Response purposes. Tim volunteered his time for many worthwhile causes, including the Cumberland County Sheriff's Department Get Hooked on Fishing, Not on Drugs fishing tournament and the Rosenhayn Volunteer Fire Department Chicken Barbecue.
Sheriff's Officer Morris was a member of the Cumberland County Sheriff's Department newly formed Honor Guard, and his skills with a handgun earned him the grade of Marksman. He was physically fit, and he took great pride in wearing his uniform. Sheriff's Officer Morris was a member of Police Benevolent Association Local 299, of which he recently ran for the office of president. He was also in the process of beginning a Fraternal Order of Police lodge within the Sheriff's Department.
Sheriff's Officer Morris previously worked in the Judicial and Communications divisions of the Cumberland County Sheriff's Department, and most recently was an aggressive member of the Warrant Division, where he enjoyed his role as protector of citizens of Rosenhayn and of Cumberland County. Tim was a unique individual who truly believed in the saying, "Rosenhayn--a Way of Life". He lived life to the fullest in whatever he did, and he loved and adored his family and the Cumberland County Sheriff's Department.
Sheriff's Officer Morris is survived by his grandparents, Joyce Montana "Mom", Maurice Price "Pop" of Rosenhayn, uncle and aunt, Joseph A. Pace and Roselynnda A. (nee Montana) Pace of Rosenhayn, who helped raise him and were like parents to him, and grandparents, Joseph C. Pace of Northfield and Mary Pace of Hopewell Twp. He is also survived by his sister Heather (nee Pace) Ford, brothers Anthony J. Pace and Nicholas A. Pace, all of Rosenhayn, sister Lauren Grohman of TX and girlfriend Amber Aliano of Clayton with whom he shared a loving relationship.
Sheriff's Officer Morris is also survived by his closest uncles and aunts, Tom Montana of LA, Harry Montana of Vineland, Michelle Montana of Pittsgrove Twp, and Charles and Denise Weisgerber of Rosenhayn, who were also his Godparents, great uncle and aunt Pete and Eupha Montana of Rosenhayn, great uncle and aunt Bill and Joan Chaffins of Upper Deerfield Twp, closest cousins Kaitlyn Montana, Nicole Weisgerber, Kayla Pace, Nicholas Pace Jr. all of Rosenhayn, and many other aunts, uncles, relatives and friends.
The funeral will originate from the Freitag Funeral Home, 137 W. Commerce St., Bridgeton on Thursday July 8, 2010 at 9:15 A.M. and will be followed by a Funeral Liturgy at 10 A.M. at St. Mary's R.C. Church, 732 Morton Avenue in Rosenhayn.
The interment will take place with full honors at St. Mary's Cemetery in Rosenhayn.
Friends will be received at the funeral home on Wednesday July 7, 2010 beginning at 6 P.M. and again on Thursday between 8:15 A.M. and 9:15 A.M.
A Masonic funeral service will take place at the funeral home on Wednesday July 7, 2010 at 6:30 P.M.
