Michael Joseph "Mike" Mogolosky
Lifelong Area Resident
Michael Joseph "Mike" Mogolosky, 88, of Bridgeton died Sunday evening June 27, 2010 at Millville Center-Genesis Elder Care in Millville after a period of declining health. He had been a patient at Genesis since June 2nd.
The husband of Hazel (nee Simpson) Mogolosky, he was born in Upper Deerfield Twp. and was the son of the late Henry and Julia (nee Wojnarowski) Mogolosky. A lifetime area resident, Mike was a 1941 graduate of Bridgeton High School.
He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II in the Pacific Theater. Wounded in the battle of Guadalcanal, he received the Purple Heart. He also participated in the aerial operations at Munda, New Georgia Island and the Solomon Islands.
For several years Mike worked at the former Scribner and Lewis Chevrolet in Bridgeton. Before retiring he worked more than ten years as the store manager at Chew's Hiway Furniture on Landis Avenue in Upper Deerfield Township.
Mike was a member of the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Bridgeton and the Shoemaker Post # 95 American Legion and also the Meade-Woodward Post #1795, VFW in Bridgeton. He was also a longtime sports fan and enjoyed watching NASCAR and going to the horse races. He also loved traveling and especially visiting Las Vegas and Mexico. In addition, he took great pride in his yard and his vegetable garden. Mike was generous with his friends, relatives and neighbors often giving them vegetables from his garden. He also visited those in nursing homes to distribute his "fresh vegetables." He was also known as an animal lover.
In addition to his wife of 56 years, he is survived by two sisters, Laura Chew of Upper Deerfield Twp. and Dorothy Lekites of Fredericksburg, VA and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Mike was predeceased by three sisters, Amelia Hanlon, Mary David and Pauline "Polly" Elbirn.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral which will originate at 10:30 on Thursday morning July 1st at the Freitag Funeral Home, 137 W. Commerce St., Bridgeton and will be followed by an 11 o'clock Funeral Liturgy at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, 312 N. Pearl St., Bridgeton.
The burial will take place at Overlook Cemetery in Bridgeton.
Friends will be received at the funeral home Thursday morning from 9:30 until 10:30.
Memorial contributions may be made by those who desire to St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 186 E. Commerce St., Bridgeton, NJ 08302 or to the Church of the Immaculate Conception, 312 N. Pearl St., Bridgeton, NJ 08302.
