Samuel "Sam" Haydak
Bridgeton Resident
Samuel "Sam" Haydak, 83, of Bridgeton died Monday evening May 17, 2010 at SJ Regional Medical Center in Vineland. He had been in failing health for the last month.
Mr. Haydak was born in Rosenhayn and was the son of the late Michael and Annie (nee Sedoski) Haydak. He was the husband of Frances J. "June" Haydak (nee Rippeon) and they celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary this past February.
A graduate of Bridgeton High School with the class of 1945, he was drafted into the US Army while still in high school. Mr. Haydak served in the US Army with the 245th Artillery Battalion and was honorably discharged in November of 1946.
Mr. Haydak had been a longtime employee of the Owens-Illinois Glass Company in Bridgeton serving in numerous capacities. When the plant closed in 1985 he continued to work for Owens in Bridgeton until retiring in 1993.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Bridgeton.
A lover of the outdoors, he enjoyed sitting on his porch. He also liked to play pinochle.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children, J. Michael "Mike" Haydak and his wife Susan of Hopewell Township, MaryAnn Wuzzardo and her husband John and Gregory A. Haydak and his wife Vickie all of Bridgeton, five grandchildren, Michael P. Haydak, John Wuzzardo, Ashley Wuzzardo, Brittni Mihalecz (Kyle) and Tyler Haydak and one great grandson, Sammy Wuzzardo. He is also survived by five sisters, Stella (Paul), Mary, Annie, Ruth and Clara, four brothers, John, Mike (Dot), George and Robert (Geri) and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sisters, Eleanor and Helen and brothers, Andy and Joe.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service at the First United Methodist Church, 268 E. Commerce St., Bridgeton on Friday morning May 21st at 11 o'clock.
The church's pastor, Rev. Elizabeth Mitchell will officiate.
The burial will follow the service and take place with military honors at the Cumberland County Veteran's Cemetery in Hopewell Township.
Friends will be received at the Freitag Funeral Home, 137 W. Commerce St., Bridgeton Thursday evening from 6 until 8 and also at the church Friday morning from 10 until 11.
Memorial contributions are suggested in Mr. Haydak's memory to the First United Methodist Church, 266 E. Commerce St., Bridgeton, NJ 08302.
