Harold Gerald Wallen
Longtime Bridgeton Resident
Harold Gerald Wallen, 73, of Bridgeton died Thursday evening April 22, 2010 at SJ Extended Care in Bridgeton following an extended illness.
He was born in Bridgeton and was the son of the late Paul and Ethel Wallen. A longtime area resident, he was raised in Bridgeton and graduated from Bridgeton High School in 1955 where he played the clarinet in the high school band.
In 1956 he entered the US Air Force and after completing basic training in San Antonio, TX, he served in Europe and received the Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged after three years.
Mr. Wallen worked in the maintenance department at Seabrook Farms for many years; retiring in 1978.
He was also a repairman with a specialty in fixing water heaters and gas stoves.
Mr. Wallen is survived by cousins and was predeceased by his good friend and caregiver, Jack Mossbrooks.
Graveside services will be held this afternoon, Saturday April 24th at 2 o'clock at the Cumberland County Veteran's Cemetery in Hopewell Township.
Mr. Wallen's high school classmate and pastor of the Rosenhayn United Methodist Church, Rev. Linwood Sharp will officiate.
The burial will military honors will follow.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Freitag Funeral Home of Bridgeton.
