Mary Briggs Sungenis
Longtime Bridgeton Resident
Mary Briggs Sungenis, 88, of Carneys Point and a longtime resident of Bridgeton died Monday evening January 25, 2010 at Southgate Health Care Center in Carneys Point where she was a patient for nearly eight months.
Born in Salem, she was the daughter of the late Charles L. and Bessie (nee Miller) Briggs. A longtime Bridgeton resident, Mrs. Sungenis lived at the Bridgetowne Arms Apartments for many years.
She was a 1939 graduate of Bridgeton High School and was active with her class reunion committee.
For most of her working career, she was employed by NJ Bell Telephone and at the time of her retirement, she was the Assistant Manager of the Residential Service Center.
She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and was active as a volunteer for the American Cancer Society. She enjoyed crossword puzzles as a hobby and was a huge Notre Dame Football fan.
Survivors include one sister, Dorothy Briggs Poloske of Pennsville, one sister-in-law, Marie Briggs of Hopewell Township, nieces Gayle A. Faulhaber (David) of Salem and Glynis G. Poloske Diver (Joseph) of Wilmington, DE, nephews, Ronald F. Poloske (Cynthia) of Hooksett, NH and William C. Poloske (Claire) of Concord, CA. She is also survived by five nieces who are the daughters of her late brother, Charles L. Briggs III, who died in 2006, and a number of great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews.
Private family funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family at the Freitag Funeral Home in Bridgeton.
The burial will take place at Overlook Cemetery in Bridgeton.
At the family's request there will be no public viewing or visitation.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are requested to the Alzheimer's Association, 3 Eves Drive, Suite 310, Marlton, NJ 08053.
