Samuel Horowitz, 93, of Upper Deerfield Township died at home Thursday morning September 3, 2009.

A longtime Bridgeton resident, Mr. Horowitz lived in Upper Deerfield Township for the past seven and a half years; five with his son Michael and daughter-in-law, Shelli and the last two at the Upper Deerfield Estates. For several years, he was a resident of Harvard Avenue in Bridgeton. He was the husband of the late Hannah (nee Rashkow) Horowitz, who died in 2002 and the son of the late Michael Edward Horowitz and the late Sarah Ruth Grossman Horowitz.

Mr. Horowitz was well known as the longtime manager of Rovner's Department Store in Bridgeton where he worked for more than 40 years.

He was an active member of Congregation Beth Abraham in Bridgeton and more recently was an active member of the Edgar Joyce Senior Center in Upper Deerfield Township.

A US Army - Air Corps Veteran of World War II, Mr. Horowitz served with the 413th Army Air Force and was discharged in 1946 as a Sergeant.

Mr. Horowitz was devoted to his family and especially supportive of his grandchildren and their activities.

He is survived by three children, Michael E. Horowitz and his wife Shelli of Upper Deerfield Twp., Dr. Robert H. Horowitz and his fiancé DJ Campbell of Edison and Sarah R. Koehler and her husband Lance of Millville, four grandchildren, Josh, Adam, Matthew and Allyson Horowitz, his companion, Jane Poole Haines and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, Morris and Joseph Horowitz and sisters, Eva Levine and Gussie Kaplan.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the graveside funeral service at the Chesed Shel Emeth Cemetery, Morias Avenue in Carmel on Sunday morning September 6th at 11 o'clock.

Rabbi Alfredo Winter of Congregation Beth Israel in Vineland will officiate.

The interment will follow the graveside service.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Mr. Horowitz's memory are suggested to Chesed Shel Emeth Cemetery, c/o Larry April, 112 West Avenue, Millville, NJ 08332.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Freitag Funeral Home, 137 W. Commerce St., Bridgeton, NJ.
