Gerald Goldstein
World War II Veteran
Gerald Goldstein, 82, of Hopewell Township died peacefully at the home of his daughter Thursday evening July 27, 2006 under the care of hospice.
He was born in Camden and was the son of the late Michael and Dora Yasnitz Goldstein. Mr. Goldstein was a longtime resident of Bridgeton, having resided on Oxford Street for most of his life until moving to Hopewell Township two and a half years ago. He served in the US Army as a Sergeant during WW II and was a mechanic in Pearl Harbor.
In his younger years he worked at his father's shoe shop in Camden and after moving to Bridgeton worked at the Star Bone and Fertilizer Plant. He later owned and operated G & G Liquors in Bridgeton. After graduating from Rutgers University he taught auto shop for many years at Bridgeton High School. He loved teaching and substituted until two years ago.
A member of Congregation Beth Abraham in Bridgeton, he enjoyed woodworking.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Norene (nee Lourie) Goldstein in 1994 and his son, Michael Goldstein in 1985. His survivors include one daughter, Laurie Henry and her husband Keith of Hopewell Township and two grandchildren, David and Michelle Henry. Mr. Goldstein was also predeceased by his brother, Fred Scribner.
Funeral services will be held Sunday July 30th at 12 Noon at the Freitag Funeral Home, 137 W. Commerce St. in Bridgeton with Rabbi Yisroel Rapoport of the Sons of Jacob Congregation in Vineland officiating.
The interment will take place at Beth Abraham Memorial Park in Deerfield Township.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions are suggested in Mr. Goldstein's memory to the American Cancer Society, 1851 Old Cuthbert Road, Cherry Hill, N.J. 08034.
